EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Spectacular Fern Frond
Stock Number  FPFWV02
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Fossil Fern Plate
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Highwater Formation
Location:  West Virginia
Size:  Plate is 7.1" X 8.7"

This is a beautiful fern plate from an unusual location. It is a fabulous slab of fossil seed ferns from West Virginia. The unusual feature of this fossil is the completeness of the fern - the frond has almost all of the frondlets intact! Some ferns found in Europe display this completeness, but this structure is rarely found in the U.S. This is a large Pecopteris frond preserved in high relief. The plant displays extremely fine detail and great color. The frond is aesthetically showcased on the natural, unbroken plate of dense shale. This is a very collectible plate of an intact fern frond from the ''Coal Age'' of West Virginia.
