Very Detailed Tree Bark from Iowa
Stock Number  FPB10

Name:   Tree Bark
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Cherokee Series
Location:  Pella, Iowa
Size:  Bark is 5 inches across

This is a distinct specimen of fossil tree bark from the Pennsylvanian of Iowa. Ancient trees were very important in the formation of coal in the mid-continent area. This specimen is a very unusual example of tree bark - the fossil is a section of a tree trunk or branch that has been compressed on top, but retains the same trunk shape and detail on the other side. The bark is fully intact on the back side, also. This is a very complete section of a fossil tree section from the Coal Age.
