EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Fabulous Triassic Cone
Stock Number  FPCON24

Name:   Araucaria elongatus Cone
Age:  Triassic
Formation:  Petrified Forest
Location:  Cerro Cuadrado, Patagonia, Argentina
Size:  Cone is 5.4 inches long!

Here is a beautiful Araucaria elongatus cone from the Triassic of Patagonia. Araucaria is closely related to the modern-day monkey-puzzle tree. This large cone came from an old collection and has been cut in half and highly polished for optimal display. The exterior of the cone exhibits the individual cone scales in wonderful fashion. And the interior of the cone is beautifully preserved. The cone has been totally replaced by silica in a multitude of wonderful colors. The distinct ''core'' of the cone is intact, and the individual seeds are quite evident. The combination of large size, striking coloration, and the extremely fine detail of the cone makes this a very collectible fossil.

Note: Argentina has now banned the export of all fossils. We will strictly abide by and enforce this law - we will not acquire new fossils from Argentina. However, this fossil was collected and exported prior to this law, and can be sold legally.
