This is a wonderful plate of fossil Seed Ferns from the classic St. Clair, Pennsylvania locality. The Seed Ferns are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The plate has many fronds intact, and at least two different types of fossil ferns are represented. A fabulous example of the highly collectible Sphenophyllum is even present. The Seed Ferns exhibit wonderful detail - the individual leaflets of the fronds are clearly defined. The fossils have outstanding color and contrast and are well presented on the natural plate of shale. And the back side of the plate is also covered with nice fronds! This is a very attractive plate of Coal Age fossils.
