Unusual Maple Leaf with Long Petiole
Stock Number  FPUAC13

Name:   Acer lesquereuxi (Maple)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 3.7" long including petiole

This is an excellent specimen of Acer lesquereuxi, a maple, from the Green River Formation of Utah. Maple leaves are highly uncommon at this site. This leaf should not be confused with the more common Platanus or sycamore leaf. All five lobes of the leaf are intact, and the venation is clearly defined. An unusually long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The leaf has very nice, natural color and contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a great example of a rare maple leaf from the Eocene.
