Beautiful Specimen of Asterophyllites Whorls
Stock Number  FPFFR03

Name:   Asterophyllites sp.
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Graissesac
Location:  Moison, France
Size:  Frond is 4.5 inches long

Here is an extremely interesting plate of Coal Age plants. This is Asterophyllites sp. from the Pennsylvanian of France. This unusual fossil plant consisted of a slender stem bearing whorls of spike-shaped leaves from the Calamites plant - this plant became extinct at the end of the Pennsylvanian. This plate of Asterophyllites exhibits excellent detail. There are many whorls of leaves present on this fossil. The slender stems are easily seen, and the individual leaves are clearly defined. The fossil plants have a distinct, dark coloration that contrasts wonderfully with the grey shale. This is a very displayable specimen of this unique fossil plant from France.
