Name:
Pararaucaria sp.
Age: Jurassic
Formation: Petrified Forest
Location: Cerro Cuadrado, Patagonia, Argentina
Size: Cone is 2.1 inches long
This is an excellent Pararaucaria cone from the wilds of Patagonia. This Jurassic cone has been replaced by silica and is quite distinct. The fossil has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. The cone is preserved in a 3-dimensional manner and exhibits very fine detail - the individual cone scales are very well defined. The stem attachment point is also easily seen. This is a wonderful example of this uncommon fossil cone from Argentina.
