EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Metasequoia Branch
Stock Number  FPCA32
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Metasequoia occidentalis
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Tranquille Shale
Location:  Cache Creek, British Columbia, Canada
Size:  Branch is 3.3 inches long

Here is an extremely attractive specimen of a Metasequoia occidentalis branch from the Eocene of Canada. It is extremely rare in the fossil record to find so many fronds attached to a branch. This Dawn Redwood fossil exhibits superb detail. The central shoot and opposite attachment of the individual leaflets are displayed in wonderful fashion all the way to the very tip of the fronds. The branch is well positioned on the natural plate of shale that also contains other plant fossils on front and back. The dark-colored fossils have excellent contrast with the lighter-colored matrix. This is a fabulous example of a rare Metasequoia branch from British Columbia.
