Huge, Heart-Shaped Legume Leaf with Beetle
Stock Number  FPULE10

Name:   Leguminosites lesquereuxi
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 3.1 inches long

This is a very large specimen of Leguminosites lesquereuxiana from the Green River Formation of Utah. This type of leaf has slightly undulated margins with very weak venation. This species is unusual in that the leaf has an emarginate, or indented, apex - this specimen displays this feature beautifully. A very short petiole is still attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the rectangular plate of shale that also contains a few distinct insects. This is an extremely fine specimen of a fossil legume leaf from Utah.
