Detailed Fruiting Body from the Sycamore Tree

Size:  Fruit is 0.8 inches across

This is an excellent example of a fruiting body from Macginitiea wyomingensis from the Green River Formation of Colorado. This ''Sycamore ball'' exhibits outstanding detail and has extraordinary, natural coloration. The dark brown fruit contrasts beautifully with the greyish-tan matrix. The fossil is well centered on the natural-edged plate of shale. This is a beautiful specimen of this unusual fruiting body from the Eocene.
