Name:
Fossil Fern Frond and Bark
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Highwater Formation
Location: West Virginia
Size: Plate is over 10 inches long
This is a beautiful fern plate from an unusual location. It is a large fossil seed fern frond from West Virginia. This specimen was found in the 1970's and was recently acquired in an old collection. The frond possesses fine detail and great color and contrast. The fossil is aesthetically showcased on the natural, unbroken plate of dense shale, and the back side is just covered with distinct Lepidodendron bark (rare). This is a very displayable plate of a fern frond and bark from the ''Coal Age'' of West Virginia.
