Name:
Macginitiea (Sycamore Leaf) and Flower
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Plate is 4.8" X 5.3"
This is an excellent plate of plant fossils. There is a large Macginitiea wyomingensis leaf, a Sycamore, and a small flower on the plate. This leaf is very distinct - two of the lobes have been bug-eaten. The slightly serrated margins of the leaf are clearly defined, and the venation of the leaf is easily seen. A long petiole (stem) is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The natural, dark-brown color of the leaf contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. There is also a nice little flower on the plate. The plants are nicely showcased on the squared block of shale. This is a very unusual association of fossil plants from the Green River Formation of Utah.
