Name:
Fossil Seed Ferns
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is almost 12 inches long
This is a large plate of fossil Seed Ferns from the classic St. Clair, Pennsylvania locality. The Seed Ferns are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The plate has many distinct fronds intact, and there are a myriad of different shapes and sizes represented. The Seed Ferns exhibit wonderful detail - the individual leaflets of the fronds are clearly defined. The fossils have outstanding, natural, bright white coloration that contrast beautifully with the black plate of shale. The ferns are well presented on the large plate of coalshale. This is a very displayable plate of Coal Age fossils from Pennsylvania.
