Unusual Three-Lobed Sycamore Leaf
Stock Number  A506052

Name:   Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 1.55 inches long

This is an excellent fossil leaf. It is a wonderful Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf) from the Eocene of Colorado. Usually, this type of leaf has five distinct lobes. This specimen is quite uncommon in that it is complete and has only three lobes! The leaf exhibits excellent detail - the serrated margins of the leaf are clearly defined, and the venation of the leaf is easily seen. The long petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil has outstanding, natural color and contrasts wonderfully with the khaki-colored matrix. The leaf is beautifully centered on the natural-edged plate of shale. This is a very displayable specimen of a three-lobed Sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation.
