This is a very unusual plant fossil. It is a large Willow branch (Salix cockerelli) from the Green River Formation of Utah. It is very uncommon in the fossil record to find fossil leaves still attached to the main branch. This specimen has THREE nice leaves preserved. The leaves have very good detail and great natural color and contrast. The branch is well positioned on the natural-edged plate of shale. This is an excellent example of a branch with three willow leaves articulated.
