Double Metasequoia Specimen from Montana
Stock Number  FPMME09

Name:   Metasequoia occidentalis
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Muddy Creek Formation
Location:  Beaverhead County, Montana
Size:  Plate is 3.0" X 3.3"

Here is a very nice double specimen of Metasequoia occidentalis, the "Dawn Redwood", from the Oligocene of Montana. Metasequoia is a ''living fossil'' - they have been found in rocks as old as the Upper Cretaceous and they are still alive today! These sprigs have great color and superb contrast. The detail is excellent - the needles show opposite attachment on the foliage shoots. The fronds are well positioned on the natural plate of matrix. This is a fine double specimen of Metasequoia from Montana.
