EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Colorful Araucaria Cone
Stock Number  A216053
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Araucaria mirabilis Cone
Age:  Jurassic
Formation:  ''Petrified Forest''
Location:  Cerro Cuadrado, Patagonia, Argentina
Size:  Each half is about 2.7 inches long

Here is a beautiful Araucaria mirabilis cone from the Jurassic of Patagonia. Araucaria is closely related to the modern-day monkey-puzzle tree. The cone has been cut in half and both halves have been highly polished. The fossil has been totally replaced by silica in a multitude of wonderful red-hued colors. The interior of the cone is just exquisite - the individual seeds are quite distinct, and the stem attachment point is easily seen. The exterior of the cone also displays good detail. This is a gorgeous fossil cone with seeds intact from the Araucaria tree of South America.

Note: Argentina has now banned the export of all fossils. We will strictly abide by and enforce this law - we will not acquire new fossils from Argentina. However, this fossil was collected and exported prior to this law, and can be sold legally.
