Name:
Podozamites reinii
Age: Jurassic
Formation: Higashimata, Shokawamura
Location: Gifu-ken, Japan
Size: Plate is 3.2 inches across
Here is an extremely uncommon fossil plant from the Jurassic of Japan. This is a fine example of Podozamites reinii. Although this plant somewhat resembles a fossil fern, it is actually a rare cycad. This specimen exhibits fine detail - although the plant is hard to see in the photo, it is easily seen in person. This is a striking example of a Jurassic cycad plant from the ''Land of the Rising Sun''.
