Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Carbondale Formation
Location:  Braidwood, Illinois

Here is a beautiful fossil seed fern from the famous Mazon Creek area of Illinois. This Coal Age plant is wonderfully preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion (part and counterpart) are present. This large specimen exhibits excellent detail. The individual leaflets are clearly defined. Under magnification, the venation of the leaflets is easily seen. The incredible color and contrast of the fossil is totally natural. No paint or coloring has been added to the specimen. This is a very attractive seed fern preserved in a concretion.
