Unusual Sassafras Leaf from British Columbia
Stock Number  F910042

Name:   Sassafras hesperia Leaf
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Tranquille Shale
Location:  Cache Creek, British Columbia, Canada
Size:  Leaf is 1.75 inches long

This is an excellent specimen of a rare Sassafras hesperia leaf from the Eocene of Canada. This unusual, tri-lobed leaf is complete and exhibits wonderful detail. The entire margins of the leaf are clearly defined, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. This leaf is quite detailed, and even the venation of the leaf can be seen. The dark brown color of the leaf contrasts well with the lighter-colored matrix. The leaf is beautifully displayed on the natural plate of shale that also contains many other leaves. This is an outstanding example of this highly uncommon leaf from Canada.
