Name:
Fossil Seed Ferns
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 10.5 inches long
This is a large plate of fossil Seed Ferns from the classic St. Clair, Pennsylvania locality. The Seed Ferns are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The plate has many fronds intact, and many are different sizes and shades of white. The Seed Ferns exhibit wonderful detail - the individual leaflets of the fronds are clearly defined. The fossils have outstanding color and contrast and are well presented on the natural plate of shale. This is a very attractive plate of Coal Age fossils from Pennsylvania.
