Nice Persea Leaf from Douglas Pass
Stock Number  FPUPE06

Name:   Persea coriacea
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 4.4" including petiole

This is a fine specimen of Persea coriacea, a member of the Laurel family, from the Eocene of Colorado. This large leaf has an asymmetrical base and an acuminate apex. The slightly dentate margins of the leaf are easily seen, and the primary venation is quite evident. The petiole is complete and tightly attached to the base of the leaf. This fossil leaf has excellent dark brown color and contrasts wonderfully with the khaki-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the naturally rectangular plate of shale. This is a very nice example of this unusual leaf from the Green River Formation.
