EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Three Sycamore Fruits
Stock Number  FPSU37
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Platanus wyomingensis (Sycamore Fruit)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Plate is 3.5" X 3.5"

This is a wonderful example of three fruiting bodies from Platanus wyomingensis, a sycamore tree. This rare multiple specimen is from the Eocene of Utah. These ''sycamore balls'' exhibit great detail - the spike-like seeds are easily seen. The stems of the fruiting bodies are still tightly attached, which is quite unusual. The dark colored fossils contrast nicely with the greyish-tan matrix. The balls are well positioned on the natural-edged plate of shale. This is a collectible specimen of sycamore fruiting bodies from the Green River Formation.
