Name:
Acer lesquereuxi (Maple Leaf)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 6.2" long, 4.4" wide
This is probably the nicest specimen of Acer lesquereuxi we have ever been able to offer. This fantastic maple leaf is from the Eocene of Utah. Maple leaves are very uncommon from this site, and a maple leaf this large and this complete is extremely rare. The leaf has all of the lobes beautifully defined, and the toothed margins are easily seen. The strong venation of the leaf is quite evident, and the LONG petiole is still attached. The fossil has nice, natural color and very good contrast. The leaf is almost perfectly centered on the large, square plate of unbroken matrix. This is a huge, top quality fossil maple leaf from the Green River Formation.
