Salix cockerelli (Willow Leaf)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Douglass Pass, Colorado
Size: Leaf is 4 inches long
Here is a very aesthetic specimen of Salix cockerelli, a willow, from the Eocene of Colorado. The specimen is complete and nicely detailed. The lanceolate leaf displays the finely toothed margins extremely well, with the short petiole still intact. The specimen has excllent color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is one of the most displayable willow leaves that we have seen from Colorado.
