This is a very unusual fossil plant. It is a detailed Paleocarpinus leaf from Washington State. This is a very detailed specimen of a Birch leaf from the Eocene. This leaf is extremely well preserved - the venation is easily seen, the petiole is intact, and the textbook serrated border is quite distinct. The leaf has excellent natural color and is well centered on the plate of shale. This is an extremely uncommon fossil leaf from the Pacific Northwest.
