Unusual Leaf from Creede, Colorado
Stock Number  FPCOL24
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Vitis (Grape leaf)
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Creede Flora
Location:  Creede, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 1.7 inches long including petiole

Here is a very attractive fossil leaf from the Oligocene of Colorado. This leaf, with the definite lobed margins and palmate venation, appears to be either a Vitis (grape leaf) or something closely related. The petiole of the leaf is intact and easily seen. This unusual leaf has wonderful, naturally dark coloration and contrasts nicely with the tan matrix. The fossil leaf is extremely well centered on the squared plate of shale. This is a very interesting find from an unusual site.
