Lepidodendron Branches with Excellent Pattern
Stock Number  FPB09

Name:   Lepidodendron sp.
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Cherokee Series
Location:  Pella, Iowa
Size:  Plate is 7.3" X 8.3"

This is a very fine plate of Lepidodendron branches from the Pennsylvanian of Iowa. Lepidodendron trees were very important in the formation of coal in the mid-continent area. The diamond-shaped pattern of the bark is very distinct - each ''diamond'' represents the point of attachment of a fallen leaf. This specimen has many large examples of branches preserved. The color is striking and the pattern is very detailed. There are also a few sections of bark on the back side of the plate. This is a beautiful specimen of Lepidodendron tree branches from Iowa.
