This is a fine specimen of Cardiospermum coloradensis, Balloon Vine, from the Green River Formation of Utah. Living members of Cardiospermum are herbaceous, or woody vines. The fossil species appear to represent shrubs rather than vines. This leaf is quite nice for the type and exhibits very good detail. The large-lobed leaf has great color and contrast and is well centered on the natural plate of shale. This is a very distinct specimen of this strange-looking leaf from the Eocene.
