Very Distinct Lepidodendron Bark From Iowa
Stock Number  FPB08

Name:   Lepidodendron sp. Bark
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Cherokee Series
Location:  Pella, Iowa
Size:  Plate is 5.8'' X 11.5''

This is a beautiful specimen of Lepidodendron bark from the Pennsylvanian of Iowa. Lepidodendron trees were very important in the formation of coal in the mid-continent area. The diamond-shaped pattern of the bark is very distinct. Each "diamond" represents the point of attachment of a fallen leaf. This specimen is one of the most detailed examples of Lepidodendron bark that we have ever seen. And the large size of the piece makes for a stunning display. This is a great example of this unusual bark from a Coal Age tree.
