Otozamites feistmantelli and Unidentified Leaves

Formation: Durakai Formation
Location: Queensland, Australia
Size: Otozamites is almost 4 inches long
Here is a very uncommon association of fossil plants from the Jurassic of Australia. On the left side of the plate are two unidentified leaves. These leaves possess entire margins and appear to have parallel venation, which is quite unusual. A long frond of Otozamites feistmantelli is on the right side of the slab. Although this plant somewhat resembles a fossil fern, it is actually a rare cycad frond. This frond exhibits fine detail - the individual leaflets are very distinct and easily seen. The gorgeous yellowish-orange coloration of the fossils is totally natural, and the plants contrast beautifully with the purplish-maroon matrix. They are well presented on the natural block. This is a striking example of Jurassic plants from ''Down Under''.
