Very Detailed Fruiting Body From The Sycamore Tree

Name:   Platanus wyomingensis (Sycamore Fruit)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Fruit is 0.65 inches across

This is a gorgeous example of a fruiting body from Platanus wyomingensis, a sycamore. This specimen is from the Green River Formation of Utah. This "sycamore ball" exhibits outstanding detail and has extraordinary, natural coloration. The dark brown fruit contrasts beautifully with the grayish-tan matrix. The fossil is well presented on the somewhat rectangular plate of shale. This is a beautiful specimen of this unusual fruiting body from the Eocene.
