Salix cockerelli
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 4.1'' long including petiole
This is a great specimen of Salix cockerelli, a willow, from the Eocene of Utah. This long, lanceolate leaf is complete and exhibits fine detail. The finely-toothed margins are beautifully displayed, and the complete petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The specimen has excellent, natural color and contrast and is well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very displayable example of a willow leaf from the Green River Formation.
