Very Rare Swartzia Leaf From Utah
Stock Number  FPUSW01

Name:   Swartzia wardelli
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 1.7'' long including petiole

This is a very uncommon leaf. It is a Swartzia wardelli from the Green River Formation of Utah. We have seen only a few examples of this particular leaf from this site. This type of leaf is somewhat ovate in form and has slightly undulating margins. The base of the leaf is rounded, and the tip is quite blunt. The petiole is extremely thick and almost appears to be an extension of the base of the leaf. All of these features are beautifully defined on this specimen. The dark brown leaf contrasts well with the khaki-colored matrix. The leaf is wonderfully centered on the natural plate of shale. This is an excellent specimen of this rare leaf from the Eocene.
