Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This is an outstanding specimen of an Eocene flower from the Green River Formation of Utah. This flower is wonderfully preserved in side view, and the long petiole is still tightly attached and easily seen. The individual petals are beautifully displayed, and the natural color of the fossil is just spectacular. The flower is well centered on the squared plate of matrix. This is an excellent example of a rare and delicate fossil.
