Name:
Platanus wyomingensis
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size: Plate is 7.4'' X 8.2''
This is a very displayable fossil leaf. It is an extremely large (over 7 inches long including petiole!) Platanus wyomingensis, a Sycamore leaf, from the Eocene of Colorado. This leaf has all five lobes wonderfully intact. The slightly serrated margins are beautifully displayed, and the venation is clearly defined. A long petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The outstanding coloration of the leaf is totally natural - no paint or coloring has been added. The huge fossil leaf is almost perfectly centered on the thin, squared plate of shale. This is an outstanding presentation of a Sycamore leaf from Colorado.
