Rare Tropical Flower With All Five Petals

Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This is a stunning specimen of Astronium truncatum, a tropical flower, from the Eocene of Utah. This fossil flower exhibits wonderful detail - all five of the petals are beautifully displayed. The fossil has wonderful color and contrast and is well positioned on the large, natural plate of shale. This is an excellent example of a rare and delicate fossil.
