Name:
Allophylus flexifolia
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size: Leaf is 4.3'' long including petiole
This is a very aesthetic fossil leaf. It is an Allophylus flexifolia from the Green River Formation of Colorado. This leaf has the slightly serrated margins fully intact, and the primary venation is easily seen. The very tiny, rounded tip of the leaf is present, and the petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts wonderfully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the natural plate of shale and displays beautifully. This is an outstanding example of Allophylus from Douglas Pass, Colorado.
