Here is a very pretty fossil leaf from the Eocene of Utah. This unidentified leaf exhibits fine detail. This type of leaf has extremely strong primary venation with the midvein extending to the apex of the leaf. Many secondary veins, alternately arranged, are attached to the midvein. The smooth, entire margins of the lanceolate leaf are nicely defined and a short petiole is still attached to the leaf. The dark brownish-black fossil contrasts beautifully with the light tannish-gray matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the natural, semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a striking specimen of this unidentified leaf from the Green River Formation.
