Size: Leaf is almost 3.0" long including petiole.
Here is a very scarce fossil leaf from the Green River Shale. This is an extremely nice specimen of Persea coriacea, a member of the Laurel family. This lanceolate leaf exhibits great detail. The venation of the leaf is very evident. The primary and secondary venation is clearly defined - under magnification, the tertiary venation is astounding. The entire margins are complete all the way to the very tip of the leaf. A short petiole is still attached to the leaf. The leaf is almost perfectly centered on the natural, semi-rectangular plate of shale. The brown fossil contrasts wonderfully with the khaki-colored matrix. This is a great specimen of an unusual Persea leaf from the Eocene of Utah.
