Here is an extremely unusual plant fossil. This is a large unidentified seed pod from the Eocene of Utah. We have never seen a seed pod quite like this type. This seed pod is very long and narrow and exhibits fine detail. The dark brownish color of the fossil contrasts beautifully with the grayish-tan matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the natural, rectangular plate of shale. There are also what appears to be some fossil mosquitoes on the slab. This is a beautiful specimen of this strange seed pod from the Green River Shale.
