Name:
Platanus wyomingensis Fruiting Body
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Fruiting body is 0.6 inches long.
Here is a very nice example of a fruiting body from Platanus wyomingensis, a sycamore. This specimen is from the Green River Formation of Utah. This "sycamore ball" still has the stem attached and exhibits nice detail. The dark colored fossil contrasts nicely with the grayish-tan matrix. It is nicely positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is a very fine specimen of a fruiting body from the sycamore tree.
