Maple Leaf Centered On Natural Plate
Stock Number  FPUAC08

Name:   Acer lesquereuxi
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 3.2 inches across

Here is a very good specimen of Acer lesquereuxi, a true maple. This leaf is from the Green River Formation of Utah. Maple leaves are very uncommon from this site. This specimen should not be confused with the more common Platanus, or Sycamore. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen and the strong, primary venation is quite evident. The leaf still has a portion of the petiole preserved. The coloring of the leaf is fully natural, and contrasts well with the lighter-colored matrix. The leaf is nicely centered on the natural matrix block. This is a very good specimen of an unusual fossil leaf from the Eocene.
