Very Unusual Plant From British Columbia
Stock Number  FPCA06

Name:   Comptonia sp.
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Tranquille Shale
Location:  Cache Creek, British Columbia, Canada
Size:  Frond is 2.4 inches long.

Here is a very unusual fossil plant from the Tranquille Shale of British Columbia. This is Comptonia sp. from the Eocene. This very distinctive frond is comprised of leaflets which are alternately arranged. The tips of the individual leaflets are extremely serrated - almost to the point of being lobed. The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the light brown shale. It is well centered on the natural plate which also contains other fossil plant material. This is an excellent scientific specimen of this scarce plant fossil.
