Large Sumac Leaf From The Eocene
Stock Number  FPURH03

Name:   Rhus nigricans
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 3.1" including petiole.

This is an extremely good specimen of Rhus nigricans, a sumac, from the Green River Formation of Utah. This asymmetrical leaf has a cuneate base and the margins of the leaf are extremely dentate. A short petiole is still attached to the leaf. The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the tannish-gray matrix. It is well positioned on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a fine sumac leaf from the Eocene of Utah.
