Gorgeous Hackberry Leaf From Colorado
Stock Number  FPCOL09

Name:   Celtis mccoshii
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 3.5 inches long.

This is a wonderful specimen of Celtis mccoshii from the Eocene of Colorado. This hackberry leaf exhibits extraordinary detail. The venation of the leaf is outstanding - even the tertiary venation is well displayed. The serrated margins of the lance-shaped leaf are quite distinct. The petiole is present and nicely preserved. The fossil has beautiful, dark brown color and contrasts nicely with the tannish-gray matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a great specimen of a fossil hackberry leaf from the Green River Shale of Colorado.
