Unidentified Leaf
Age: Eocene

Location: Puryear, Tennessee
Size: Leaf is 4.0 inches long including petiole.
Here is a very nice fossil leaf from an unusual location. This leaf is from the Eocene of Tennessee. We recently acquired this leaf from an old collection. Years ago, these leaves were found in the clay deposits of a brickyard in Tennessee. We haven't seen any of these leaves on the market for at least 20 years. The leaf exhibits great detail. The venation of the fossil leaf is excellent - even the tertiary venation is nicely defined. A short petiole is still attached to the leaf. The fossil has excellent color and contrast. It is well positioned on the rectangular block of matrix. This is a very nice fossil leaf from an old collection.
