Unusual Pleistocene Pine Cone From Missouri
Stock Number  FPCX02

Name:   Pinus strobus (White Pine)
Age:  Pleistocene
Formation:  Glacial Clay
Location:  St. Louis County, Missouri
Size:  Cone is 4.7 inches long.

Here is an unusual specimen of a pine cone from the Pleistocene of Missouri. We are not sure exactly how old this is, but it was found in the glacial clay. The cone does not appear to be mineralized, rather just preserved in the Pleistocene clay. The pine cone is extremely 3-dimensional with the individual scales of the cone in an open position. It rests comfortably on the block of clay which has been stabilized. This is a unique specimen of a White Pine cone from Missouri.
