Nice Maple Leaf Centered On Matrix Plate
Stock Number  FPUAC04

Name:   Acer lesquereuxi
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 2.0" long and 3.0" wide.

This is a very fine specimen of Acer lesquereuxi, a true maple. This leaf is from the Green River Formation of Utah. Maple leaves are very uncommon from this site. This specimen should not be confused with the more common Platanus or sycamore. All five lobes of the leaf are present. The center lobe appears to have been slightly chewed on by a bug prior to fossilization. The leaf retains a portion of the petiole. The brown fossil contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular matrix block. This is a very pretty specimen of an unusual fossil leaf from the Eocene.
