Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. Here is a very nice specimen of Astronium truncatum, a tropical flower, from the Green River Formation of Utah. The flower displays very nicely. All five petals of the flower are present. The fossil flower has good color and contrast. It is almost perfectly centered on a large, rectangular plate of shale that measures 2.9" X 3.6". There is also a Mimosites leaf present on the matrix plate. This is a nice specimen of a rare and delicate fossil.
